Solar storm causes purple-green aurora to appear in Canada, pics surface

Unusual streaks of purple-green lights were seen in Canadian skies recently after a solar storm hit the Earth. Pictures of the aurora or northern lights were shared by astronomy author and photographer Alan Dyer, who said they were visible for about 40 minutes. The lights were seen due to a rare phenomenon called Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement or STEVE.
