Hungarian govt extends emergency powers amid Ukraine invasion

The Hungarian government has passed a constitutional amendment giving itself emergency powers to deal with the “constant threat” posed by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, PM Viktor Orban has said. The amendment will permit PM Orban to enact laws by decree without parliamentary oversight. Orban stated that the powers would help the government protect Hungarians by “any means possible”.
