The holidays are a time to share good food with your loved ones and pets should be no exception. One of the biggest trends is charcuterie boards and the people over at the Best Friends Animal Society put together a quick how-to guide on making a “barkcuterie” board for your four-legged friends.
To show you how simple it is, I put one together for my precious mutt, Audrey, and it couldn’t have been any easier. The ingredients are pretty straightforward: whatever fruits and vegetables your pup likes!
What you will need:
Serving or cutting board
Small bowl or ramekin
1/2 cup of your pet’s favorite wet food (I subbed this for Audrey’s favorite treat: peanut butter)
1/2 cup of your pet’s favorite dry food
A handful of treats
1 cup of pet-safe fruits and veggies like: apples, mangoes, strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, carrots, cucumber, bell pepper, zucchini and spinach.
Place the small bowl or ramekin in the center of the cutting board, place the spinach under and surrounding the bowl. Fill the bowl with the wet food – or peanut butter like I did. Then you are going to place your cut fruits and veggies around the bowl, separate different colors so each item stands out. Fill in the areas with dry dog food and dog treats. Just remember to keep it simple! Design it with your dog in mind and choose foods that they will enjoy.
Best Friends Animal Society is the leading welfare organization working to end the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters by 2025. They are a pioneer in the no-kill movement and has helped reduce the number of animals killed in shelters from an estimated 17 million per year. For more information visit bestfriends.org.
