Chinese city asks govt firms to move data out of Alibaba, Tencent clouds

The Chinese city of Tianjin has asked municipally-controlled companies to shift their data from private sector operators like Alibaba and Tencent to a state-backed cloud system by next year, Reuters reported. The data will need to be moved to a government-run cloud it called “guoziyun”. Firms have also been ordered not to sign new contracts with third-party cloud platforms.
